Being Authentic

If you have read my blogs before, one recurring theme is likely obvious to you. I believe with all my heart, soul, and mind, that Celebrate Recovery is the greatest Recovery program that has ever been written for all of life’s hurts, habits, hang-ups, and addictions. Please don’t misinterpret that statement, all recovery programs are great and needed in this crazy world today. Most are individualized for a specific area of expertise, but my preference is a Christ centered recovery program that deals with a wide variety of issues that we as mere humans face every day.

The title of this particular blog, “BEING AUTHENTIC” has been on my mind for quite some time, and very recently has been the basis for recent sermons here at Good News. What am I talking about when I make the statement being authentic? I can spend hours writing how perfectly wonderful and powerful the ministry of Celebrate Recovery is, and I can back that statement up with these facts. Celebrate Recovery is now being celebrated in over 35,000 churches worldwide and has helped millions of people change the direction that their lives were moving towards. However, until they truly became willing to be authentic in their recovery, the ministry itself could not truly change their lives for the better.

Until they were willing to get before God and tell him exactly why they needed his grace and forgiveness and admit their part and take responsibility for their actions, there is not a recovery program, or ministry that will change their lives for the better. Doing it on our own may work for a short time but in the end, people end up right back where they started.

What keeps us from being authentic? Pride, Denial, Brokenness, Mistrust, are just a few. Satan delights in those emotions and thoughts, He knows that when we allow these things to rule our lives, He has won. How do we defeat Satan? Being authentic, truthful, following God’s light. Being totally honest with God even to the point of being angry with God, if that is what you are truly feeling. Because until you reach this point of honesty, God isn’t able to offer his grace and forgiveness to heal you. There are so many references in the Bible hat will reaffirm these statements, Matthew 6: 22-24, Isaiah 30:12-13, Psalm 40:1-3, Psalm 44:20-24, Habakkuk 1:2-4.

Heather Layne, National recording artist wrote a song for the CR program: “KEEP COMING BACK.” Lyrics in the song describe the CR ministry perfectly

Gotta keep,
Keep, keep
Coming back!
Works if you work it, stay on track!

Being Authentic, truthful, real, admitting your wrongs, accepting your part, forgiving those that have hurt you, keep coming back, works if you work it. This is how the Celebrate Recovery Ministry works. More Importantly, this is how God works!

Celebrate Recovery, Tuesdays 7:00 p.m. Good News Community Church.
