Life Reset

In Celebrate Recovery we often talk about life resets. Why would we need a life reset? How do we accomplish such an overwhelming task? One of the foundations of CR is accepting the fact that we have made a mess of our lives and we have the tendency to do the wrong thing. Many of us have tried to fix the hurts, habits, and hang-ups in our lives by ourselves, and have failed. There are different levels of resets needed. Some are minor, some are major. Some people call it a life change. Other people call it a need to change how they live their lives. Whatever you wish to call it, change always starts with choosing. Choosing how you think, and choosing what you think about. The choices we make will change our lives more than circumstances do. Choosing to change your location might not help much, because wherever you go, there you are. One of the gifts that God has given us is the ability to make positive moral choices. We sometimes lose sight of that fact, and then realize too late that the choices we made did not give us the outcome we desired.

When thinking about making a life reset there are key questions you should ask yourself.

  1. How do you see yourself?

  2. How do you see your problems?

  3. How do you see God?

At Celebrate Recovery we learn some important lessons about our lives. Even though we are products of our past, we are not prisoners because of it. You are never too far gone for God’s grace and forgiveness. Let me repeat that, You are never too far gone for God’s grace and forgiveness!!! Isaiah 43:18-19 says this about resets: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up. Do you not perceive it?”

Need a life reset? Here are some points to think about to get ready to reset your life.

  1. Start asking God to begin something new in you.

  2. Pinpoint specifically what you wish to change in yourself.

  3. Find people to support you, small groups, or Celebrate Recovery.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 explains that community is god’s antidote to discouragement, defeat, and failure.

Sometimes we get so busy we forget that our lives need more focus on what is important. Connection to God, your health and body, your family, relationships, career, routines, thought life, habits, parenting, making time in your schedule for rest, finances, and self-confidence. Not everyone will think they need a life reset. Some might even say their lives are perfect just the way they are. I imagine God chuckling to Himself and saying, “How’s that working out for you?” LOL!
