Pride

Up to this point in our Celebrate Recovery newsletter for the weekly, I have touched on Step one, and Principle one. I also shared information about the first lesson in our Celebrate Recovery teachings, Denial. What Denial is, what it canlook like in our lives, and to some extent, how we use Denial to make us feelbetter about ourselves. Sometimes Denial can be used to cover up sins that evenwe, ourselves, would not like to admit. This month I would like to focus on the topic of Pride.

Pride has kept many people from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Admitting sinand acknowledging that in our own strength we can do nothing to inherit eternallife is a constant obstacle for prideful people. We are not to boast aboutourselves; if we wish to boast, then we are to proclaim the glories of God. Wha we say about ourselves means nothing in God’s work. It is what God says about us that makes the difference. Throughout Scripture we are warned about theconsequences of Pride. Satan was cast out of heaven because of pride.(Isaiah 14:12-15) He had the audacity to attempt to replace God himself as the rightfulruler of the universe. But Satan was cast down to hell in the final judgement of God. Why is Pride so sinful? The Bible proclaims that there are 6 forms of pride. Self-exaltation Pride gives credit to himself. Self-promotion Pride: expects credit from others. Self-justification Pride expects credit from God Himself. Self-degradation Pride tears himself down. Self-demotion Pride compares himself to others.

How does Pride fit into the Celebrate Recovery teachings? Denial and Pride areold friends. Many times, when we are denying that we have a hurt, habit, or hang-up, it is because of pride that we refuse to admit it. Foolish pride, selfish pride, call it what you will, it does not fit into any part of God’s world.

Our Celebrate Recovery ministry uses the word of God, straight from the bible, to not only show you what a God-centered life can look like, it also uses proven lessons and teachings from the national Celebrate Recovery ministry to guide you through your recovery. These lessons and teachings, which have been in existence for over 30 years, have helped countless people with successfully recovering from their hurts, habits, and addictions. The same lessons and teachings have helped them to stay in recovery as they continue in the process. Is Pride and/or Denial keeping you from seeking help?
